The Millennium Foundation

We are very proud and excited to be associated with the Millennium Foundation.

We chose to donate 10% of each ticket sold to HIV research because we believe that, even though 39.5 million people across the globe have the virus, HIV research does not receive the fund raising attention and awareness it deserves.

Founded in 1995, the Millennium Foundation has become the most influential fundraising body in the Sydney West Area Health Service. The Westmead Millennium Institute (WMI) is one of the two major institutions the Millennium Foundation funds. WMI is one of the largest and most successful medical research institutes in Australia with more than 400 staff researching a wide range of health disorders affecting adults and children.

One of the research areas at the institute is the Centre for Virus Research which includes HIV research. There are several groups within the center investigating several areas of this disease. One group's primary goal is to understand the function of HIV proteins on a molecular level, with the long term aim of identifying novel antiviral therapeutics to better treat the virus. The retroviral genetics group is working on several key HIV diagnostics techniques and the HIV molecular pathogenesis group is researching the very early interactions of the HIV virus with host cells of the body.
